Your bankroll is the total amount of money you have set aside specifically for betting. It should be money you can afford to lose, treated separately from your living expenses. Effective bankroll management is the key to staying in the game long-term.

A Unit is a way to measure your bet size relative to your bankroll. Instead of saying "I bet $10," pro bettors say "I bet 1 unit."

As a general rule use a unit size of 1% to 3% of your total bankroll. This protects you during a "cold streak/losses."

Odds represent the probability of an event happening and determine how much you win.

• Higher odds: Lower probability, but higher payout.
• Lower odds: Higher probability, but lower payout.

In "Three-Way" betting (common in soccer/football), these symbols represent the match outcome:

• 1: Home Team win.
• X: A Draw (Tie).
• 2: Away Team win.

1X means you win if the Home team wins OR draws (Double Chance).

2X means you win if the Away team wins OR draws (Double Chance).

12 means you win if the Home team wins OR Away team wins, and not draw.
